Buying IT Systems and Services

Whatever you buy, make every penny count

Buying IT Systems and Services is very difficult unless you have someone qualified by skills and experience to determine (a) what you need, (b) what or who best meets that need, and (c) which option provides best value for money. As I don't sell any hardware or software, I can offer advice based on your best interests, not my income from sales margins.

The Procurement Consultancy Service is based on years of procurement experience, on projects with budgets ranging from £500 to £250,000. The process followed depends on the scale of the investment. For small investments (e.g. purchases of desktop PC's, printers, or consumables), the process is as follows;

  1. Identify your business needs
  2. Search for and select a number of candidate systems
  3. Identify the best price for these sytems from online suppliers
  4. Advise you of the top candidate systems and best prices

For more complex or larger scale investments like a new server or software solution, the following process is followed;

  1. Identify your business needs
  2. Search for and select a number of candidate systems
  3. Shortlist 3-5 options
  4. Complete a detailed review of shortlisted systems
  5. Present final findings including an assessment of each solution, the cost and benefit of each solution and a recommendation.

My recommendation is an option only, the final document (called a 'Basis of Decision' document) contains information on ALL top candidate systems so YOU can make the decision on what system to buy.
